According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), there are 4.4 million youth between the ages four and seventeen that have been diagnosed with the disorder by a healthcare professional, and over half that number are currently receiving prescribed medication for the disorder.

Depression

The symptoms of depression can vary in intensity but their affect on a relationship is always negative. A depressed person feels unworthy and weak. This self-depreciation furthers the depression. Losing the ability to work, communicate or enjoy life will erode relationships, lead to financial problems and affect intimacy.

It is important to remember this is not the true nature or feelings of the person suffering from depression. A depressed person may start arguments or tell you they don’t love you. Do not believe them or take their comments to heart. Indulging their grievances will only further the depression.

Diagnosing Children With Autism Early In Life

Diagnosing Children With Autism Early In Life

There are many factors that come into play when discussing children and autism. There are many websites and books dedicated to early intervention that is so important to an autistic child’s success. Here is some information about children and autism.

It is important to make a diagnosis of autism early in a child’s life. When an accurate diagnosis is made early on, the child can get the help they need at a crucial point in their lives. Autistic children do not perceive things the same way normal children do. Their senses are often heightened and they are very sensitive to stimuli. The trigger is different for each child, but many are sensitive to shrill or loud noises. They hear background noise very loudly and it can quickly overwhelm their delicate nervous systems. This is why they will often cover their ears to help muffle the sounds. Normal sounds are like nails on a chalkboard to an autistic child.

When autism is suspected it is important to take the child to a doctor who specializes in children and autism. You will get better answers. Some children only have a slight case of autism and can easily learn to adapt to the world around them by making some simple adjustments. Other children are diagnosed with a more severe form of autism, and have much more difficulty coping with life.

More severe cases of children with autism require more specialized care. In most cases, parents are encouraged to care for their child at home instead of putting them in an institution.

The child will have a much better chance at succeeding in life if they are surrounded by people who love them and are willing to adjust to meet their needs.

Each autistic child has unique needs, but there are some common behaviors associated with children and autism. Many do not respond to their name. They do not make eye contact. They often make repetitive motions to soothe themselves. They have a hard time understanding what other people are thinking or feeling.

Autism, Asperger’s syndrome, pddnos

Some autistic children resort to head banging or other forms of self-abuse. They will often use a singsong voice when they speak or have little infection in their voice.

Autistic children will often focus on one object and ignore everyone and everything else around them. They also often have an extreme sensitivity to things like light, sound, or touch.

Every child is different and has different things that bother them. Caregivers need to pay extra attention to be sure to notice what it is that triggers an episode so that they can avoid them or at least be prepared for them.

When an early diagnosis is made, steps can be taken to help children with autism have an easier and more productive life.

Article excerpt for Obsessive Compulsive Behavior

Imagine what it would be like living with someone who had OCD. I have trouble pondering such an affliction. Life is difficult enough as it is. I certainly don’t need more problems on top of the typical stuff. Nevertheless, many people across the globe grapple with obsessive compulsive disorder on a daily basis. To get an idea what that is like, all you have to do is view the television series, “Monk.” the lead character of this show suffers from OCD, along with numerous phobias and mental afflictions. Although it’s made into something comedic on this show, you can rest assured that it’s not a laughing matter to those who have it.

When Sams loneliness became overwhelming to him, he called me for help.

“I want to be in a relationship, yet every time I get close to someone, I run away. Im not even sure what Im so afraid of, but I must be terrified of something!”

“Sam, what happens inside you when you like someone?” The following answer and resulting dialogue came out over time, but Ive condensed it here.

“I think that if this person really knew me, she wouldnt like me. I do all kinds of nice things for her so she will like me. Then after a while I start to feel trapped and I pull back. She gets upset about my pulling back and I then feel even more trapped. Once she gets mad at me, I stop feeling in love with her. Thats when I decide she is not the right one for me. This has happened over and over…
